I came in and put An extra couple hours into my glass project today. I'm happy with the design that I created and pleased with glass color and texture choices, but I'm envying the design of all straight lines. What was I thinking?

Soldering the glass together...
I was really hoping that I had been a welder in a prior life and that this stage would be a little easier than the cutting of the glass. No such luck . I guess I will have to rely on good old fashioned hard work and practice.

Week 3
One mermaid bandaid, several glass nicks and multiple re-cuts--- I finally got all 29 pieces of my design cut this evening. This isn't easy, but I'm loving it. Today I used my new pistol grip tool and began using the grinder. My piece is definitely getting closer to being okay and the grinder helps. I'm not sure if my pieces are cut accurately enough, and may have to recut. I may try to come in and clean up my shapes before next class.
Take a look at my progress through my photos. Note that I changed the corner and center piece color choice from plum to sky blue and finally settled in on the clear to balance out the strong main colors .
Stay tuned. This is a learning process and I'm not sure how to insert the photos. Bare with me.

First steps of first stained glass design
Exciting day ... We received the cartoon of our first design and were to choose our glass colors.
So many colors and textures to ponder- heaven for an art teacher. I finally settled on multiple textures and my color scheme consisted of royal blue, green and teal. I'm still contemplating the contrasting color for the corners and center circle--maybe cranberry or sky blue.
The cutting started slow, but got better as the afternoon progressed. I learned that I needed to be more accurate with my cuts and more consistent when I''m scoring the inside of my outlines. I so much want to learn this craft! I've loved stained glass for a long time.
I've picked up a pistol grip tool for class this week and looking forward to continuing my design.

First day cutting glass
I had been so excited to take this course since first hearing about it over the summer. My anticipation turned more to nervousness as the first day of class approached. I'm an art major, and practice a variety of art forms, but mechanically inclined--- I am not. The tools worried/ worry me a little, but I survived the first day of cutting and I'm even more excited to learn more! Until next time...
